i simply cant update to iOS4
    i tried the following:
    reinstalled itunes 9.2
    dfu mode
redownload ipsw from inofficial source and two times from apple server.

ALL the time the update succeds but after the update is complet i just end up at the "connect to itunes" picture....when i reconnect my devoce to the computer itunes says it has to be restored....so i restore it and it just ends up the same.

i am using an ipod touch 2g on an windows xp sp2 (32bit) machine.
    any ideas?

Were you jailbroken before you restored?

Maybe Shift + Click restore will do the trick.

First off, open up My Documents. Click on Tools, then Folder Options. Click on View then tick the option to view hidden files, and untick the option to hide system operating files. Then, click Apply, Ok, then close My Documents.

Now hold Shift and click Restore. Go to My Computer, then your C: drive and follow this path.

    C:\Documents and Settings\"Username"\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Update

The firmware SHOULD be there. Double click, and your device should restore to 4.0

This works on XP, not sure about anything else though.

actually i cant downgrade back. Even dfu mode and using 24k exploit leads me into the recovery screen.i try now with my older cmputer which runs itunes 8 so i hope i can there go back to 2.x again

You can't brick an iPod touch.

You're in the same boat with a lot of people. You won't be able to restore at all. You can go back to 3.1.2. I called Apple and they've replaced my iPod, but it varies with a lot of people, so I don't know. Good luck.

I was out of warranty. They waived the $29 service fee and decided to replace it anyway.
