thats because the screen has an oleaphobic coating, which means that with a few wipes on your shirt the screen is perfectly clean

whats the deal with using alcohol on the screen? will it mess with the coating?

Get a microfibre cloth, anything else is not necessary. If you have some major smudge on the screen remove it with a slightly (!) wet cloth or paper towel. In most cases it is sufficent to take a deep breath at the screen and then clean it with the microfiber.
Alcohol probably is not a good idea, because afaik there is a small rubber seal between the glass and the casing which might get corroded.

you really do not need a screen protector at all, if anything the phone looks worse with a screen protector because screen protectors can scratch. You could take a knife to the iphones screen and it wouldn't scratch. its scratch resistant and made of glass, try scratching your windows it just doesnt happen

I use an antiglare/antifingerprint screen protector, I just can't ignore all those smudges on my device
