    hi,
i have an ipod touch 2nd 8GB and tried to update it to OS4. in the middle of the way i got this message that there is uncompatability with my XP and Microsoft suggest not to install part of software ( I believe it was something with the back up or..) SO i press cancel but then i was not restored to my previous OS, NOW there is just this screen on my ipod saying to connect it to Itunes...

my PC and my ITUNES cannot see the ipod.
i tried renstalling the itunes, deleting the registry, ran the itunes diagnostics...
    is there a fix?
apples want me to buy warranty in order to speak to support...

    Device:
    5G iPod touch
Restore it in a different computer.

The problem with your computer is that the iPodservice thing doesn't run anymore, and that's what recognizes the iPod.

You need to go into your computer's "services" and set the iPodservice to run.

It's not a detailed description, but it's what I needed to do one time. (On vista though... Let's hope it's the same on XP.)
