I hope someone can help me. One of the reasons I bought an iPod Touch was to be able to connect to the internet where I work. Unfortunately, I have found no way to enter a grave accent character when typing in the SSID; and even more unfortunately, the wireless network SSID in my office building contains such a character! Anyone know of a workaround? Also, changing the SSID is not an option since this is all controlled by IT folks in another state and would disrupt everyone else who is currently using this connection.

    Regards,

    Ken E.

I am assuming that the SSID isnt transmitted, allowing you to select it from a list?

if that is so, maybe a kbd mod would help? (just grasping at strings here).

Does it show up if you hold down the appropriate letter? The ipod should show you variations with accents etc.

This is listed in the manual.

Tap-and-hold the letter you want accented. A pop-up menu will appear with a list of available accents for that letter.

This only works on letters that have available accents, of course.

You are correct. The characters are NOT accented. I need the back tick character alone. It usually resides on the same key as the tilde (~) and looks like this: `. The SSID is hidden so it doesn't show up automatically; I must type it in.

Oh, that character. No, unfortunately I know of no way to enter that, and it doesn't appear to be supported as an international character.

I suggest you make a special trip down to the IT department and smack the geek that made such a weird SSID upside the head.

As much as I might WANT to do that, it really wouldn't be in my best interest.

Perhaps someone knows how to do a copy/paste operation using some other application? I could then mail the ID to myself, copy it, then paste it in the dialog box for WIFI. I have the jailbreak app installer.

Well, I *think* the wireless information is stored in /private/var/root/Library/Keychains. There should be a keychain database in there, but I don't know what format the database is in. I can, however, see the references to my wireless LANs...
