Of course it should remain Apple-exclusive. Its a marketing term, "Only on the App Store". Ever see that little logo at the end of a commercial or on an advertisement? That's Apple-exclusive and by making the term generic, it would be misleading and hurtful to Apple's and Apple's developers' marketing strategies. Amazon is only showing it's lack of originality by doing this.

If they only own App Store, then can't Amazon have the Amazon App Store?

If no one else can use the words "app store" when naming their app stores, I think it should become generic. To be honest, I am more toward the side of it becoming generic all together.

I disagree. The Amazon App Store is, wait for it... an app store! As in a store for apps, you know. How could that not be generic enough? If I open a grocery store and simply call it Grocery Store, I won't sue people who do the same...

It has become a generic term like Popsicle or Kleenex.

Difference there is anyone can sell something advertized as a "popsicle," whereas only Kleenex can sell tissues named "Kleenexes." Popsicle was made available to everyone after it became such a huge umbrella term. Time will tell if "App Store" will be the next "Popsicle." ;)

The app store sells applications. Yet we call them apps just as most people (at least that i know) call all tissues Kleenexes.
Yea i think it should as it is a pretty generic term.
