    Greetings all,

I have a new 3GS which I would really like to jailbreak.
...nay, I'm DYING to jailbreak it.
I have hundreds of things to do that I cannot yet do.

Problem is I'm a newbie with iPhone. I am very experienced with Winmo so that's the background I'm coming from. I flashed my old Omnia dozens of times with cooked ROMs... so I'm not afraid, and I can follow any detailed instructions with confidence, but I do not understand enough about the iPhone to know if the jailbreaks that are available now are for me... I see some things listed indicating some versions are ok while some are not yet jailbreakable.

    Specs:
I have AT&T, my Phone's "Version" in the About screen says
    3.1.3 (7E18)
    The Carrier says AT&T 5.6
    Model is MC137LL
    Modem firmware is 05.12.01

If there's any further info you'd need to determine availability for me, let me know what I should post.

    Thanks.

    Dan

I think the only jailbreak for the 3GS is tethered which means when you shut down your iPhone you will have to rejailbreak it when you turn it back on.

Unless you have the old boot rom (which I doubt because it sounds like you got your iPhone very recently) your iPhone cannot be jailbroken. As of now 3.1.3 can not be jailbroken on devices with the new boot rom (later 2nd gen iPods, 3rd gen iPods and iPhone 3gs with the 4th and 5th digit in the serial number greater than the number 40)

They aren't working on a 3.1.3 jailbreak because 4.0 is expected to be realeased with the new iPhone (June) and they don't want to reveal any exploits to be patched up for such a minor update. When you got your iPhone did it come with 3.1.3?

I'm pretty sure it started with 3.1.2 and updated the first time I connected to iTunes.

If 4 will be out soon and they're going to jailbreak that, I can wait.
