Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but I am shopping for an IPod Touch for my granddaughter. I don't know the difference in gen 1 and 2, except I imagine the 2 is a newer version. Does it really matter which one I buy for her?

Well the 2g is better than 1g and you can't buy 1g (first hand) anyways as they are not on the market. The 2g has better processor and a volume rocker with a sleeker design and inbuilt speakers.

    Go with 2g

Well, if your granddaughter is younger she probably won't even be able to tell the difference between the processor, but the built in speakers may appeal to her while playing games or whatever. The 2g is lighter and should be easier for her to handle. Overall the 2g is a better unit and I would stay up to date if I were you.
