Its my first post and congratulations to the website owners for a very interesting site.

My 8gig Itouch is an MC model of the 2nd generation as I understood. Its running on 4.0.2 firmware. Reading several threads on this forum and website I understood that this unit cannot be jailbroken.

I'm right or should I downgrade the firmware to 4.0 or 4.0.1? Or should I wait till somebody find a way to jailbreak, not sure how long that will take?

I just need a first step thanks for your help.

    Ed

Apple stopped signing 4.0 SHSH what that means is that apple wont let you downgrade.

The process for downgrading is that you downgrade then you have to register with apple to make sure that they let you, they stopped letting you 2 days ago.

In the future when a jailbreak comes out or when new update comes out, always Back up your SHSH blobs with a program called UMmbrella search around its safe and really good. Then when you need to downgrade just follow any guide and it should work, that method saved my ipod and my JB life.

How can this possibly apply for 2G MC devices? They don't even have usage of SHSH-blobs implemented!

Hell, even I managed to downgrade my iPod, which just happens to be a 2G MC.

False! Apple aren't signing 4.0 anymore. Neither are they signing 4.0.1.
Yes, you did save your friends SHSH. But it wasn't signed, so if you'll try to downgrade it wont work. Unless it actually is a 2G device and you try to downgrade back to 3.X.

How did you downgrade w/o shsh signed? I coudn't this morning, that is BS.
They do use SHSH blobs, I should know I only restored about 10 times!

Yes, you can save it anytime, just you need it signed by apple to make it work, to make sure they work, check cydia, or claim t blob then close umbrella and check if you have it.

They use soft-SHSH's now since iOS 4.
Before on 3.X there was no need for SHSH on 8GB MC's as many know.

Soft SHSH only apply from one 4.X firmware to another. If you're able to restore to 3.X you'll be able to restore back and forth between 4.X and 3.X, but not from 4.X to 4.Y (unless you have the blobs for this firmware)

Anyhow, time to help the OP. How come I could downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3 when he can't? I suffered from a lot of 3194 errors before it would restore, I don't remember how I managed to get through it though.
