I just got my new ipod touch second gen
I added my music and then tried to access wifi.
My network doesnt show up for around 10 secs
then i click on the network and it says
"Unable to join the network "my SSID""
It is an open network, it wont connect after a
    full software restore
    3 hard resets
    network reset.
I was so excited to get my new touch, after waiting a month to buy it.

I tried adding a wep key to my network to see if that would work and that didnt.
    Is there any ideas

Its on Frimware 2.1.1 freshly restored.

did it ask for a key?
if it did, you have to make sure uve got the right one.
pop out the power from your router then plug it back in... also pop out the wire from your internet/cable box or wheatever and put that back in.

    just keep trying...

    thats all i got sry

I too had a problem getting on my wireless network when I first tried getting on my home network. Sadly, the 63 digit mix of random numbers and lower/uppercase text was just too hard to enter into the iPod touch keyboard without being sure I wasn't making a typo.

I then weakened my security slightly by using an easier password to type, but still keeping it pretty rugged. It then connected first time.

If you didn't get the request for a password you may find that some of your wireless settings are off. Ensure that Universal Plug and Play is enabled on your router.

I have another wi-fi issue with my home network. Sometimes it will connect normally, but other times it just doesn't work. I get a little checkmark beside the network name and the signal strength is at max, but I am not assigned an IP and I cannot view any websites. I find that if I disconnect and reconnect several times, it will eventually work. This seems to also happen with public networks. Does anybody else have this problem? Any solutions?

This is a fairly common problem that people are experiencing. To this day, no word from Apple on a fix.
