It will allow people or select devs to make apps which can be made and sold for the ipod touch/iphone.

The SDK will allow Companies/Developers to create fully functioning and fully legal apps for the iPhone and iTouch. For example if The Weather Channel wants to make a weather app, they can. If Sony wants to make a Playstation emulator, they can. If Google wants to make a Gmail app, they can.

In my opinion, the release of the SDK will end jailbreaking as we know it, but it will be for a good reason. We will be able to download an app and simply install it directly from iTunes.

I'm not sure at all if this SDK will be the jailbreak end. Let me explain:

If rumors are correct (and I believe them), Apple's SDK will be superficial and will not allow low-level development. I bet file system access will be restricted, completely transparent memory menagement, and a bunch of other firewalls to restrict developer's freedom. Also, take a emulator for example: considering all file system restrictions above, how we will be able to upload ROM's?

Considering this, I do believe that most native applications created so far will be redeveloped on this SDK, like IM applications, simple games like solitaire, Lights Off and many others that are not so system dependable.

Other applications, like customize, terminal, Stumbler, VNC and Summerboard, I think will never be able to be redeveloped on this SDK...
