Recently the USB cable that came with my iPod broke. So, I went to Bestbuy in search of a new usb cable. When I got to the iPod sections, I plugged the USB for the display ipods into my iPod touch 1G. It was one of those thinner ones, which didn't look like the one that came with mine. However, they didn't seem to charge it, and I tried all the cable's in the iPod sections, and none of them worked. They do charge the Display ipods though.

So now I'm a bit hesitant to buy the "new" USB cables. Do they only work on the 2G iPods?

Doesn't seem right to me. It should be the other way around if anything. my 1G charges on my iphone 3G's charger....

edit: maybe the socket on the bottom of your ipod that the cord plugs into is bad. Try wiggling it , see if it gets a connection. That's what's wrong with mine. I've had it for 2 years, and I have to wiggle the plug in the ipod to get a connection sometimes...
