I have been with the apple "family" for over a year now. Totally hated it until last year I was given a Nano 3G for my b-day. To make a long story short I fell in love with it.

Been eyeing the touch for the past few months and 3 days ago purchased a refurb 16GB 2G on apples site for $199(us) dollars. I knew nothing about apple's 9/9/09 summit until yesterday.

I am still waiting on my touch in the mail, but did I make a wise choice? I see that the new itouch has a faster processor but is the 2G still current? I don't care for the camera or anything else but the number one thing I want is it to work well.

    Is a 16 gig refurb 2G for 199 a smart purchase?

Seeing that a new 8GB without any upgrades is the same price, I would say it was a great purchase.

Thanks for the advice. IS it worth it to upgrade to firmware 3.0?

dont go higher than 3.0 yet though. If you do 3.1 your ipod wont be jailbreakable. (at least for a few weeks)

What is so good about Jailbreaking. I know it means hacking the ipod but what does it do?

Basically you get to access the inner guts of your iPod and do things apple won't let you, for example:

    add themes
do a bunch of crazy sh*t
download cydia apps which let u do even more crazy sh*t like change your status bar, make your iPhone into a wireless router, SSH into your iPod or iPhone, download emulators, ******* right onto your iPod or iPhone, do crazy sh*t, change system fonts...
oh and you can do crazy sh*t
