ARS Technica reports during the Apple Q108 conference call tonight:

"The big news was the repeated reference to the iPod touch as a new "mainstream, WiFi, mobile platform." Those words came up several times. It looks like Apple is entering the UMPC market by redefining the platform and killing its weak and worthless competitors. Goodbye, Origami; hello, iTablet."

Gee, is this news to us?

It's basically like www.google.com, but google's better because it'll actually tell you what UMPC is, unlike UMPC itself.

how is it not a umpc in its own since? I mean come 'on, how many of you check your email on it, really easy? How often do you check your favorite sites out around the web? Do you play games? Theres alot of things you do that you can do on the iPod Touch that makes it in a since a umpc.

Now the other side of the story from what the OP was saying... When the SDK comes out theres no telling what kind of things are going to be developed down the road for the ipot. Making it even more like a umpc. Or even in a larger since, pushing newer features, better apps, then in a year or two, after the ipot has got so popular because of the things that were developed, release the iPod Touch V2 (with a camera, bluetooth, speakers, blah blah)

At which point it will be so convienent to have such a, for lack of a better word, Handy

device. Where one day in the distant future you will have a device with you like such at all times. Maybe google will speed up their open wifi plan and make good use of the 700mhz specturm where a device that doesnt have to be your phone will become so handy. But at that point when their is open wifi freely available, with ads of course, you wont need a phone because you would just use VOIP.

Wow, i got a lil off track of the whole umpc thing, but... whatever I am done ranting.
