Hi, I have my jailbroken touch with all the apps so I am no stranger to this. However, I believe when someone gets a new email on the iphone a message shows up telling them what it says (like a preview) on the sleep screen. Will this work on the touch?

i dont know about that but I downloaded taskbar notifier. it shows a little envelope in your taskbar if you have new mail.

iPhone's running EDGE so it uses network and it does check for mails automatically over EDGE network. iPod touch only relies on WiFi network.

Although I still would like a sound (or even a click) when I get new mail, the taskbar notifier suggested by Berky93 works nicely. It can be found in the Installer.app

I get a sound - with my headphones on - when I get a new mail.

Just my own stupidity. I didn't know how to change the settings for the mail app to change the frequency it checks for new mail. I didn't realize that installing the app would put the mail settings right onto the touch settings page - I thought they were in the mail program somewhere but couldn't figure out how to get to them. I also figured out finally how to set up imap to work properly through the settings page which has worked flawlessly so i'm all good
