Whatever they do, I still use my touch quite a lot. I wish they would update it.....whether it has a bigger screen or not, I don't care. I would like to see more ram, better processor, and better camera. A bigger screen would be fine if they don't make the device itself bigger. If they can do these things, I will buy a new one. I am with T-Mobile, so I don't have the iPhone(which I want desperately). If they ever do get it, I will have one and then no longer have a need for the iPod touch.
There are many, many people who LOVE their Itouches including me. They are a huge profit maker for Apple. It is not going away. I might add, I plan to buy the new Iphone when it debuts and I STILL will buy a new Touch. Really hoping for 128 gig so that it will hold ALL my music.
