JAILBREAK -- To jailbreak the iPod touch 3G (it's free), visit this page and click the appropriate icon for your Operating System (Mac or Windows). Although this jailbreak method is not harmful to your device, some users encounter problems and must restore their device to factory settings. All questions you have about this jailbreak (codenamed blackra1n), can be found here. If not, feel free to ask any questions you may have by clicking here.

Please note that this is a tethered jailbreak which means that your iPod touch will lose it's jailbreak each time you shut the device off. There is currently no untethered jailbreak available for the iPod touch 3G.

    • Jailbreak is not harmful to your device if you have common sense
    • App Store and all standard applications are not affected by jailbreak
    • Restoring will return your device to factory default settings if you encounter a problem with the jailbreak or decide to remove it

WARRANTY -- Apple provides a standard 1-year warranty on all iPod touch models, regardless of where purchased. Apple Care may be purchased for your iPod touch which gives your device an extended warranty. Also, if you did not purchase your device through Apple, additional warranties may have been applied / are available for your device on top of Apple's standard 1-year warranty.

Jailbreaking voids any warranty, however it is untraceable with a device restore. That said, a device restore (nearly a 1-click process through iTunes), and the device's warranty is no longer void.

WI-FI -- If you are having issues with connecting to Wi-Fi with the iPod touch, please view the thread entitled What to Do if You're Wi-Fi Does Not Work. If you are still having issues, please click here. If either of these links are helpful, please post your problem here and a forum member may be able to assist you.

FIRMWARE -- The latest firmware update for iPod touch 3G is 3.1.2. Firmware 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 along with other firmwares are jailbreak compatible (blackra1n). See above for jailbreaking.

This is very handy! I click here, boom, details for a jailbreak. Thanks for starting this thread.

Just a few questions. Is there a semitethered jailbreak available (the one that lets you reset but not with jailbroken apps) for this model yet? And also, would a 2G ipod touch screen protector and backing film (to cover the chrome from scratches) fit this model?

Hey MrC... I just read your profile and it says you're sporting a 3G Touch (32G) and running 3.1.2. Out of curiousity sake... did you use Blackra1n or Pwnage?

I've used Pwnage on two iPhones (2G) and it's worked great. I was just wondering what you used and how you liked the process.
