New iPod came with 29.3 gb capacity?

    Guaranteed, No iPod/iPhone/iPad will come with its exact amount of storage (unless you somehow completely format it.)
    think of it kinda like a computer, once you install your os you won't have the same amount of space

    this is partially the answer, apple grant you 32GB which is 32 billion bytes iirc, and thats a true gigabyte, 1 billion bytes, 1024MB is whats known as a GiB the improper use of the prefix means people often get confused so you have to factor that in, and yes the OS takes up some space too

    its called partitioning, there are two main sections, the media portion and the actual os. it is 32GB but iOS takes up some space.
    (basically what everybody here is saying...But i thought you'd want to know the name)
