If you purchase a new iPhone, you will have to factor in the cost of the iPhone plan and the cancellation fee.

    New iPhone 3g (8gig) : 100
    Contract : 70
    Cancellation fee : 175
    Total : 345.00
May be other fees I am not aware of.

I just purchased a used 16g 3g for $300. The back was scratched up but I polished out most of them as well as the haze with plastic polish and a wax. Once I put on my phantomSkinz (superior to Zagg's Invisible shields), the phone looked brand new. And the glass was in perfect condition.

well if you buy a new one you would end up paying what he said^^^^^
but if you buy one from a friend or craigslist for example, sometimes you can find a 3G for 250-350. 8GB and 16Gb too

if i could get a new 3g from walmart lets say for $100 brand new,

why would a used one be 350-300?

You cant purchase an iPhone from walmart without purchasing an iPhone plan with 2 year contract.

And the 100 dollar iPhone is only the 8G model. The 16G model is 199.99.
    So doing the math again:
    New iPhone 3g (16gig) : 200.00
    Contract : 70
    Cancellation fee : 175
    Total : 445.00

To purchase the phone outright without any contracts would cost about 600 dollars.

because you wouldnt have a contract with at&t. If you dont care if you have a contract buy a new one then.

no.. its because your buying the phone without a contract thats why.. go to an at&t store or an apple store and see how much they charge to buy an iPhone without a contract...
