Hi, im very new here, i actually just got my ipod touch yesterday, so ive just been using it for its wifi, music and video so far. but now ive seen u can put custom applications, games etc. so im kind of wondering if there is a thread which explains the most important/popular terms used when customizing ur ipod touch.
    ie. jailbreak etc.

Pay for the 2.0 software update. I'd prefer that over jailbreaking any day.

yeah I agree. I was a long-time jailbreaker (as I know teslanaut was too) and I recently switched to the appstore. even though theres no themes, my ipod is ten times more stable now and the apps/games are so much better. plus everything is secure and smooth. me likey appstorey

1.1.5 is the old 1.1.4 Firmware with a lot of Bug fixes.

2.0 is the new firmware created by apple. They completely rewrote the frameworks on this firmware (meaning) Nothing from 1.1.x is compatible with 2.0. To purchase apps go to the app store. To get the Apps for 2.0 (remember this only works on 2.0) You have to have installed 2.0 for 10 bucks or have downloaded or installed it from a ******* site.

in a nut shell, jailbreaking allows you to add third party applications on your itouch..this means adding things apple didnt want to or couldnt (due to legal issues "i.e. emulators and roms")

2.0 has an application called the app store which essentially means that you can buy applications that other people have made, the thing is though you have to go thru apple, therefore there isnt anything illegal (again roms and other apps)

1.1.5 is basically 1.1.4 with minor bug fixes - 1.1.4 was a major step for the ipod touch developing community and many many great apps were made for this version of the itouch's firmware. Many of these fine applications are not available on the 2.0 firmware unless the developer wants to take the effort and re code them for the new firmware.
