I'm heading to Florida in 6 days, where I'll be buying my iPod Touch (well, I'll hang off until around 22/23 July to try and catch a price-drop or upgrade).

It's looking unlikely that I'll have a laptop with me, so I won't be able to sync up to my iTunes library until I get home.

Do you think the staff in the Apple Store would sync and register it for me, so that I can at least use the wi-fi etc. until I get home? I don't want any tunes etc. on it until I get home, so I don't need any music etc.

Just like take it out, and stand inconspicuously near the front, and attach it to a Mac with a USB cable, then set it up as a new iPod. Voila! Usable iPod.

Of course! You've just finished spending more than $300 in their store after all and i'm sure they'll have no problem doing both for you. Just mention it at the register and the person doing cash should bring you to the Genius Bar to do it.
