Apple's new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers will sport a new glass-surfaced multi-touch trackpad. The new control surface seems to unify (or at least bring closer together) the control paradigms for Apple's handheld devices like the iPod touch and iPhone and their notebooks, doing away with physical buttons and using the extra space to expand the trackpad by over 30%. This could mean that the army of developers drawn to the iPhone SDK may now be more tempted to port their multi-touch enabled applications to OS X.

Next up: An app that allows the touching devices(iPhone and Ipod Touch) to control this laptop.

So does anyone else see where this is going? All I see from this is the future where Apple has a computer that is basically a giant iPod Touch. Think of a full sized computer that has no buttons, its just a flat brick (doesn't flip open) and it is just entirely multi touch screen. Geez, think of a full sized multi touch keyboard, wow. I hope to God this is the direction Apple is headed in because this would be the single greatest thing ever. Any thoughts or comments?

I am kinda disappointed with the whole new announcements as well. Like in general.

The $999 dollar laptop is the low end old macbook. Still not worth it because I got a computer for $649 with 160GB compared to that 140GB and 2GB ram vs. their 1 GB ram.

So for $300 more you get something with one less GHZ. 160GB and 2GB. Compared to my laptop those graphics are superb. But anyways. This should be cheaper or come with more ram or hardrive space.

I also notice there are no multiple configurations. Remember Macbook had like 3. You only get 2 1/2 lol

    Greatest ever..i dont think so

That pushing it a bit far. The greatest ever apple invention maybe. How would we find the little bumps that are so under appreciated to type quickly with?
