I've been experiencing the war between us customizers and apple since day one. I got an 8gb 1st gen ipod touch a few weeks after it was released. I used the first, original hack, the tiff exploit, to jailbreak my ipod and customize it and get third party software running on it. The tiff exploit was patched, another exploit was found, then that was patched etc, etc, etc and this continues to this day. In retrospect, it is a huge DICK move by apple to be such assholes to their customers who want to customize and change the software on THEIR devices, especially when you consider that third party software managers like cydia and installer had apps running on i devices LONG before apple released the app store. Apple then turned around and made money off of many of these same third party developers through app sales, after previously trying to restrict their software. Anyway, I had an iphone 3gs and when that broke I just bought a Nexus One. After using android for the first time (well using it for the first time on a device I OWNED) I am blown away by how awesome and open it is. I went through the trouble of unlocking/rooting it and installing custom roms, but to my suprise there are only a few things that you can't get without rooting it. TLDR: I had fun playing cat and mouse with apple through the generations of devices/IOS releases, but now that I'm using android, I will never, willingly, use an apple device again. TLDR:TLDR: f*** APPLE Edit: Ok I guess "F*** APPLE" might be a bit of an oversimplification, but my point was I feel like I'm not in a virtual prison when messing with my android device like I did when I had to constantly update and rejailbreak my i devices. And the work and frustration of an early jailbreak for the update to ios was pretty much never enough to deter me from getting the newer version.
Well they do have legitimate reasons for patching these flaws, so no hackers take advantage of them for malicious activities and I'm sure they also don't want people pirating. Android is more open but I personally find it more unstable. Whatever floats your boat
I plan on getting the Motorola RAZR (not the old flip phone, the android phone). I have seen reviews on YouTube, and it amazes me everytime I watch them!
I used Android and hated it...got an iPhone within a few weeks. I guess it's just personal preference.
It certainly is, and while I LOVE the deep communicability (changing the processor speed for instance) and open-ness of communicability, the amount of tweak and stuff can definitely get in the way of me just using my phone as quickly as possible, and for someone who doesn't care about hacking the crap ouf their device, all of that stuff would just get in the way of using the device. I just prefer to deeply customize my own interface because I enjoy it, and I'm a computer science major so it's semi-relevent to my degree, and while I invest a lot of time into it, having a more streamlined customized interface helps me to use the device more efficiently. It's like investing time that you will slowly get back.
Wow, thanks for sharing this exciting story with us. I personally don't care for Android, but that's just me.
