    Hi,

today I got my father's old 2nd generation Iphone. He bought it almost 2 years ago but it gonna be locked for 3 more month. So first thing I did was resetting it to delete his data.
The Screen shows "Please insert a sim card" or the like. I want to unlock + jailbreak it now but there are several tools out there and I really don't know which one to use.

I'm not a starter, jailbreaked my Ipod touch several times till it got broken but I never unlocked an Iphone before.

So could someone please give me some advices? Thanks in advance.

    Best regards.

Did you restore it to 3.1.3?

I am not sure how 3.1.3 affects the 2G but you might be out of luck for a little while. If you are on 3.1.2 or earlier you are safe. The easiest thing to do is run blackra1n to jailbreak it then just like MrDodi mentioned use Bootneuter to unlock it.

I believe you can also use Redsn0w or Pwnage Tool with the 2G assuming you have it on 3.1.2.

the iphone 2G is not involved in Baseband updates.
    Never again.
So just get Bootneuter in Cydia and youre fine

It is stuck in the screen "Please insert SIM card" that means he can't access Cydia.

You will have to either use a legitimate SIM card just to turn on the phone or wait the rest of the three months.

My guess is that you updated to 3.1.3 and need to hacktivate it. The solution is to downgrade to 3.1.2 which if you are unsure about how to do, you can do a quick search on this forum and find a million guides, and then jailbreak it using Redsn0w or Blackra1n. Both of those utilities will hacktivate the phone, allowing you to access the springboard without using a legitimate SIM card. Once hacktivated, run Bootneuter from Cydia/Rock.

Hope I was of some help.

Well just do a "re-jailbreak" with redsn0w for the 3.1.3 FW and do the hacktivation.
After that. Install Bootneuter on Cydia and youre done.
