Hey guys, I'm running 1.1.1 firmware right now, jailbroken via jailbreakme.com, and I wanna update to 2.2 so I can get the Itunes apps too. Do I need to do restore, then update to 2.2 and quickpwn? or can I just update straight to 2.2? thanks for the help

just download the newest firmware from itunes which i think now is 2.2.1 and it will auto. get rid of your jailbreak then wait a couple of days until dev team gets an update out for quickpwn then jailbreak with that .... if you need more help with the jailbreak just search this site there should be a few good tutorials on here

that easy? Why would I need to get rid of my jailbreak after update if I can just keep that and 2.2? Doesn't sound right to me (no offense, rb26dett, just wanna get the facts). A third opinion please?

i think u can update to 2.2 without restoring, but im not sure. To be safe restore first, then update.

    NOTE:updating to 2.2 requires $10.

if you update, you will lose the jailbreak
however, you can simply re-jailbreak once updated
you will lose your j/b apps but not music, video etc

    no need for restore

Don't update to 2.2.1 just yet, because the Dev Team haven't released a QuickPwn or PwnageTool update for jailbreaking it yet. Wait a few days and then update once the jailbreak is released. Check blog.iphone-dev.org for details.

No. Do not upgrade unless you really need to keep all your music and videos (aren't they backed up on your computer?). If you upgrade to 2.2 from a jailbroken 1.1.1, then you can (and will) lose 500mb or more of memory because it will become "unreadable." 2.2.1 is for iPhones only so it isn't a problem, just restore to 2.2 then jailbreak with quickpwn.

Edit: My mistake, 2.2.1 is for iPods as well, sorry. Still, I recommend doing a restore, not an upgrade.

I think I'm gonna take the safest approach and start with a clean slate, no music, apps, videos, just straight default then update and quickpwn jailbreak. So... how do I do that?
