I booted it up once and then shut it off then when I tried to boot it up again I got some thing that looks like the attachment ( I know it's not the best picture) then it just turns off by itself. what should I do?

A floppy disk with an X on it? I think you're HDD has been wiped. Try re-installing Mac OS.

This seems to prove that Mac isn't 100% user friendly and safe, beware!

Try inserting the disc labeled "OS X Install Disc" that came with your Mac. Then boot up and install Leopard. It's not hard.

you should have used time machine to back up everything, then when you reinstall MacOSX, you can just reinstall it from that.
Dont reinstall MacOSX YET, go to apple or wait for a reply from someone with experience of this situation. Or just search google

you just turn it on, then slot it in.... But if it does switch off, do it quickly. then when it boots, hold the option key (the one next to the command key on the left hand side) then use the arrow keys and select the install disk
