okay so here is the jist of the story, i got an ipod touch 2008 model for my birthday in April from my brother who has shipped out to war. well it had a password on it from him, me thinking i knew what it was tried one too many times and disabled it, i cant connect it to my computer at all anymore and i even spent 10 bucks to buy a travel charger kit with a new data cable, thinking that was the problem...it wont charge from the wall, car, or computer...windows XP Sp3 doesn't even recognize the device connected or anything....please help, this is my first apple product, other than that i have a Sandisk Sansa e260 which was very easy to use, plug and play, drag and drop....apple has to be a pain in the seat....yes i have itunes version 8.

thanks to anyone that might be able to help me out

Download correct 2.2.1 firmware from somewhere

    DFU mode

    Shift-Click restore

    Find downloaded firmware

    Wait.

okay so i have new firmware ready and the ipod in dfu mode, yet itunes still wont allow it to connect, it makes that slight popping sound and doesnt connect, keeps popping in and out, unknown device..disappear, unknown device...disappear...dont know whats going on, im thinking of finding an open-source version of itunes and trying it in debian 5.0, it seems that winblows sucks for everything yet again

Open source version of iTunes? And iTunes doesn't work in Linux even if you did find an open source version
