So i had an iPod touch 2g that worked fine but had a cracked screen.

I fixed the screen and it all worked good, but then when i tried to upgrade to iOS 4 it just got to the end of the progress bar, crashed and now i am stuck in recovery.

DFU is not recognized. and the screen boots up w/ apple logo then shows connect to itunes.

DFU should be black screen, you shouldnt see the apple logo after.
if you need dfu, plug in your ipod, and then turn it off. after that, hold home and power for a full 10 seconds then release power and hold home for up to 30 seconds, if your on windows it should make that little connected sound and itunes should pop up.

I've never had a problem with my jailbroken ipods, and have only had to restore once cuz of a mistake I made. jailbreaking is def worth it man. Most problems people have are easy fixes, they just make them seem complicated.
