my ipod touch is 2.0 and i have recently jailbroken it and addded applications using winpwn. It has crashed and bricked before (because of the jailbreak i think) but this time itunes will not recognise it at all in recovery mode. Itunes has been recently updated to itunes 7 and my ipod wont appear on the front page of itunes or even on the hard drive section of finder on the mac. I want to restore my ipod somehow, i dont mind having to get all the songs/videos/apps again... i just want it to work

    connect ipod to computer.
    turn it off.
hold the power button and home button for 10 seconds.
Release the power button and hold the home button for another 10 seconds.
Now your computer should say something about: new device connected (apple DFU) and your ipod screen should be black as if it is still turned off or just locked.

(This is on windows, but on a mac you should do the same!)

i tried it and the ipod came up with the recovery sign (a lead coming from the bottom with an arrow pointing to the itunes sign) but the computer still doesnt recognise it (grr). Im wondering if there is any way to upgrade mac osx on the computer because that seems to be the problem for getting itunes 8.

You need to tell us more about your computer.
We have no idea how to help you unless to give us more info.

ok details: the computer is a fairly old apple mac (i dont know the model but its around 2 years old). everything has worked fine with it until this and it has never had any problems to do with downloading or updating anything.
I just need a way to restore my ipod when the computer wont recognise it or need a way for my computer to recognise the ipod.
I have a bricked ipod touch (jailbroken 2.0) and itunes 7 (newly updated).

    Need help

    1) Plug iPod in, and make sure it is off (Nothing on screen)
    2) Hold both buttons for 10 seconds exactly
    3) Release the power button, but hold the home button until it pops up in iTunes.

Nothing should ever appear on the screen.

Trust me, it is insanely hard to brick an iPod not on purpose.
And click on "Check for Updates" and get iTunes 8.

Then try putting it into DFU and restoring.

    EDIT: Beat me to it
