Heya! I'm wanting to jailbreak my iPod, and I thought I would ask this community about if I should, and If i do, what programs to use.

    Here's my specs:
2nd Generation iPod Touch 16GB. Haven't needed to update firmware since i got it, so I don't know what version i'm running on.

My laptop is running on 32 bit Windows Vista.

I would like someone to find me a program which works with vista and 2G ipods.

Please post whatever you know and if you have JBed and you were in the same situation as me, explain what you did.

    Okay, Thanks in advance!

I just realized Tom Hanks' initials is: T.Hanks

Thanks, I saw something on youtube with libusb, quickfreedom and a custom firmware thing.

Do I need these? People also said it gave you a virus...

I'd just like a little more info please.

    You need LibUSB.

But after you have Jailbroken and rebooted your iPod. Uninstall LibUSB. Otherwise, when you shut down, you get a blue BSOD Screen.

    Hope this helps!

Thankyou! Also, will I have the right firmware installed? The 2nd poster said I would have 2.2.1 Is this right?

2.2.1 is the latest publicly available firmware for the 2G iPod touch. Check your firmware type from the Springboard: Settings -> General -> About -> Version.

I too was afraid to jailbreak my ipod when I first got it because there were people saying that they got stuck in the process of jailbreaking and their device wont even turn on.. but after i read the "why should i jailbreak" somewhere in this forums, I learned that you get tons of stuff after you jailbreak.. You can always restore your device for the warranty

Yeah, The First time i Jailbroke mine (thether) I was like Oh sh*t, Got realy nervous, But, after i rebooted and saw that magical Cydia, i was like, YES, WOOOT. Was Well chuffed.

Jailbreak is Defo a Plus, Starting to think how i didn't have it.

when i first got my iPod. (2G), I looked everywhere to find themes n sh*t, but then i realized i could not, as the Jailbreak wasn't out yet.

And when it was, I waited 3 Weeks before completing my Jailbreak. I read all about the problems n how to fix them first, Then i went for it

I don't really want to use the libUSB if it gives you BSOD though...

Is all i need to do uninstall is before I shutdown, or use control panel -> Add or remove programs / programs something (whatever it is called in vista)

Or go into the folder and delete everything...

What if it leaves data, and still gives me BSOD?

thats not true... if u ran libUSB in the correct compatibility mode, it shouldn't do that.. i have it on my vista machine and it doesn't do that. it only did that before i ran it under the correct compatibility..

@OP: before u install libUSB, right click on the install program, and go to properties. then go to compatibility, and select windows XP.. which i believe is package 2.. but yeah.. pick Windows XP, then apply and ok.. then install libUSB and u'll b ok.
