I currently have 3.0 installed and want to upgrade, but I was wondering. If I use the custom IPSW method, can I just use shift+upgrade to upgrade to 3.1.2 or should I clean install?

If the latter is the case:
    1. Can I just restore my old info
    2. what is the best method to restore my custom apps+ repos, I used appbackup (I think thats the name) and it was rubbish as it didnt restore everything.

This is my first upgrade to a minor revision so excuse how noobish this sounds.

You need to restore to it, not update.

    1. Yes, you can if you backed your iPod up before the restore in iTunes.
    2. iTunes backs up most stuff, but I am not sure about exactly what it backs up.

I thought for JB stuff you had to use a special backup app?
