So I have been trying to install VMware tools within Backtrack3 however I need to install the kernel source 1st :

    I ran
    aptitude install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

But aptitude is not on there,

    I run wget(grabbed an aptitude.dab file)

    but cannot unpackage the .DEB

    I ran " ar vx <filename>.deb ..... and now I’m stuck.

    Any help please?

    Thanks

I have not used BackTrack, but as far as I know - .DEBs are not supported as of Version 2 and 3 (they now use .TGZ files).

That is all I can input as of now.

aptitude I believe is not the package manager for BackTrack3
