for some reason, I can't use colors now in photoshop. if I set a color with the selection menu it makes the color of my tools black and white with the same values as the color but not RGB.

is there a way to fix this?

EDIT: I just tried to finish my project in GIMP, and it has the same problem! it lets me select a color, but then it doesnt actually apply the color! wtf?

When you're making a new image, there should be a dropdown menu for "grayscale" or "RGB Color." Choose that one.

ok I'll try that - although shouldn't it be set to RGB color by default if I had it on that for my last image?

That happened to me once too. I felt real stupid once I realized what I was doing wrong.
