An Apple logo isn't supposed to show up. Turn up the volume on your PC/Mac if needed. Go into DFU mode, and during the DFU mode process, you SHOULD hear one sound after holding both buttons for 10 seconds, and you should hear another one in about 8-9 seconds after holding the home button only. Then iTunes should open up with an "unknown" iPod Touch, and follow instructions from there to jailbreak.

^ And if that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you.

Usually people have the right strategy, but they are doing something wrong. I hold my HOME + POWER for 12 seconds, then just hold HOME until I hear the little chime from my PC. Hope it works for you.

With redsn0w 0.3, no restoring is required, but if you want, I BELIEVE you can. Not 100% sure, just jailbroke an hour ago.

But turn the iPod COMPLETELY off, by sliding the red box over. Now try DFU mode (while plugged in to the computer) by holding POWER + HOME for 10 seconds, then letting go of POWER and keep holding Home until you hear a chime on your PC/Mac, and you have just entered DFU mode.

Use the newest version of Quickpwn, because it looks like you have a 1g, you need the 2.2.1 ipsw from somewhere.
