There's a difference in Artist and Album Artist. You should select the songs (by holding Shift or Ctrl), choose Get Info and set the Album Artist to "Various Artists" or something similar. That should sort all the artists into one album.

I'm having this same problem. I think it just started when I upgraded to the latest 3.1.1 software. I don't remember it happening before that.

My question to the solution of setting the Album Artist to "various artists" is:

Would the artist of each individual song still show up when I play the songs? I like to see the artist of the song I'm listening to.

I had this problem back in 2.2.1
You need to change the Album Artist and the [/B] Artist to match perfectly.
This can be done in iTunes, by following the below steps.

    1. Go to your Music Library
    2. Change the view to "Albums" By using the Icons in the top right hand corner.
    3. Right click the mistakenly-named Artist, or Album Artist to match.
    4. Resync your iPod.

Thanks, zDSpider & Tsukoi. I changed the Album Artist of each album that was not showing correctly to something that matched for each song on the album, and that seemed to fix the problem. And I can still see who the artist is for each individual song, which is something I was concerned about. Thanks again!

Ahh dw ive just figured it out i know this thread is probbaly dead now but oh well

go to itunes and select all the albums that are giving you problems then right click info

    Go to the options tab

Then where it says part of a complication tick yes and it will be sorted
