My old pc has "died" and I am trying to "reverse sync" my IPOD with a new laptop (I have done this before and know how to). When I plug in the Ipod touch into the USB socket and start iTunes I get the message that it is synced with another computer which means it recognises it is connected. BUT when I go to START and COMPUTER the Ipod does not appear. I therefore cannot access any of the files on it to transfer them. Anyone come accross this "disappearance" before?

The ipod touch is different to some previous ipod versions which allowed you to access the file system by My Computer on Windows (or the equivalent on the Mac), you will not see the ipod touch in My Computer Apple protected the file system by not allowing this kind of access. If you wish to transfer files outside of iTunes you need to have the ipod Jailbroken and then either SSH the files out or use Total Commander with the Teapot plugin to access the file system when the ipod is connected.
