I've seen many posts which say that MC models are 3G, but my iPod Touch has the model number A1288, which is 2G. What generation is mine then? I have a 8GB iPod Touch.

    Thanks

You need to look at the model number not the serial number. If you got it Christmas '08 then its a 2g and if you got it Christmas '09 (unless it was used or sitting on the shelfs for a long time) its probably a 3g.

and the model number? You mean as in whether it's a MC or MB? If you do, mine is MC.

    Mine is MC086BT.

    EDIT: Nope, it's A1288.

Well if its an MC model number then you have a 3g(ish)

MA=1st gen devices (iPhone 2g, iPod Touch 1g)
MB=2nd gen devices (iPhone 3g, iPod Touch 2g)
MC=3rd gen devices (iPhone 3G, iPod touch 3g)

It can be argued that the MC 8gb is really a 2g (only difference is new boot rom) but for simplicities sake I prefer to call it a 3g.

Yes it's an MC model.. ahh its so confusing! When I connect my ipod to my PC and when I open spirit, it displays "iPod Touch 2G", however when I was on 3.1.2, the blackra1n jailbreak was tethered for me and apparently that only happens to 3G models, so what the cow is this!
