go into settings/general/reset and reset the settings, maybe....? Or restore your ipod through itunes and set it up as a new ipod not a backup. if it keeps doing it, i'd take it back.

playing music by itself - hardware issue

this issue has been well documented in the following thread on the apple forum

you will see several of my posts which explain it in detail...

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2172417&start=60&tstart=15

long story short - many have this issue, apple knows about it (occasionally you get someone who doesnt) and is being cooperative in replacing the defective ipods

best thing to do is follow directions on the site i linked to that allow you to contact an apple expert... speak to the expert and if they dont know the issue, tell them many of their experts do, and ask them to find someone fimiliar with the issue... then - like many people have done, get them to promise you a NEW replacement - if they wont, ask for someone else who will...

then go to an apple store and explain your issue and get your replacement... most people are not encountering any resistance to this whatsoever, but if you do, you will have the apple expert, with your case number which you can contact at the store and they will tell the store people to give you a new ipod

again overall apple has been very cooperative with people and you probably wont even need to contact the expert if you dont want to...

    there... something useful

i've had the same thing with mine. it's because of the included ipod headphones (with the mic and control buttons). the only things you could do for now are:

    1. unplug the headphones before you sleep, or
    2. turn off the ipod before you sleep.

I think it isn't hardware related because this problem only occurs when the included headphones are plugged in. Also, when the ipod is plugged into the computer, waking the ipod from sleep with the headphones in don't start the music. Strange but I highly doubt it is hardware related.
