The apple iPad is a unique device that lets you surf the web, read emails, watch films, read books and so much more in a whole new experience. When I first purchased my iPad I was overwhelmed, and of course with every apple product opening the box for the first time is the most exciting moment. Hardware The iPad is very slim, light, and easy to hold. The aluminum back is a lot better than the iPod’s shiny surface as it doesn’t get scratched or full of fingerprints easily. The screen and keyboard are a perfect size to use with ease. I do admit it still does have its flaws. For example, - The speakers are not very load. I think that the speakers could be a bit bigger as if you crank up the volume the music becomes distorted. - It’s cold. I know what you're thinking but when i’m sitting down at night with my ipad on my lap my legs are freezing. But I can easily overcome this issue with an iPad case. - There are no USB ports. Unfortunately the iPad is not able to be used with USB flash drives or other devices. Which means it does not live up to the notebooks features. Also there is no camera which is a huge disappointment. Software I have to admit when I first saw the WWDC I was really disappointed with what the iPad turned out to be. I and many others were hoping for the iPad to go towards the Mac’s OS rather than the iPhones. And I still am. Most people say to me that it’s just an oversized iPod touch. It’s not. But when I think what it could be like instead of what it is now I sometimes agree with those people in my head. I think that apple have really let themselves down with the iPad. Steve Jobs said that they want it to overtake the net-book. But it can’t. There is not enough features. You can’t even get the most out of the internet on it as it won’t recognize ‘Flash’. I really hope that apple will soon redesign the whole iPad layout. On the other hand I give apple credit as they have re-designed all of the apps for the iPad, and I have to say they look really nice. The HD graphics are stunning and the multitouch is fantastic. But once again it’s lacking capabilities such as, - No stocks, weather, calculator, camera, clock, voice memos or Finder. As the iPad is more towards a computer than a phone then why not have documents? Or at least the basic applications that you have on the iPhone. - No iLife. I’m sorry but when you first turn on your iPad you cant do anything. If it wasn’t for third party applications there wouldn’t be any drawing apps, games, calculators, RSS readers or any utilities like that. Personally I think that apple have a lot to work on to get the iPad a lot more usable. - Photos app is crap. The photos application just lets you view your photos. I feel that it should be more like iPhoto where you can edit and publish your photos directly to social networking sites. Conclusion Overall I think the iPad has a lot more to be done to it for what it is. I would think that £300 is more reasonable price unless they re-design the whole user interface. And I give the iPad a poor rating of 2/5 for the lack of ability you have with it. Compared to what we were expecting I think that the iPad is quite behind in features.
