The button isn't doing anything when I press it. A little bit ago I would have to push the button down harder for it to work. Am I totally screwed now? I have had it since October. I didn't buy any sort of warranty. Will I be able to do anything?

every ipodtouch comes with a one year warranty with apple, so restore it and return to apple store, no need for receipt. they will give you a new one on the stop

Its a hardware problem. Will it matter if I bought it from Best Buy? Should I still take it to an Apple store? Does it matter that it is obviously jailbroken?

Definetly restore it before you go, and take it to apple if they are near you and you should have no problem even if u didnt buy it from them, but i would say restore for sure.

But dont you have to use the home button to restore it? It won't work. What exactly happens when you restore?
  7. Backup you apps and other data with SSH though before you restore.

I highly doubt a restore will fix a busted home button...

I suggest restoring it first, so that the Apple guys won't know you "modified your product" hence voiding your warranty

-Don't worry mate, they'll replace it as long as you delete any evidence of unit modification (hacking), make sure to restore

I have no idea how to do this. I'm sure its on the site but its probably complicated. I just did one of those auto jailbreaks where it did it for me. I don't have anything on my computer for that.
