Okay, a friend of mine's iPod touch was stolen (about a year ago). We'll give that friend of mine the name "Bob". We have had a suspect for a while now, we'll say his name is "Karl".

For a while now, there has been no way to tell if Karl's iPod was really Bob's.. Until recently. I found Karl's iPod and wrote down the model number, serial number, and mac address from the settings app. Since Bob has an iTunes account and registered his iPod to iTunes, I should be able to go back and see the model number, and serial number of Bob's old iPod.. correct?

My question is how can i do that?

    Thanks,
    Matt.

Well if "Bob" is the real owner of the device he should have the "box" the iPod came with. On the "box" the serial and model are written so that's how to identify it, I don't know how to do it with iTunes

If he got it from Apple, there is a chance that he could call Apple, and if he has a receipt, they might be able to tell him the serial in case he lost the box

Never tried this way because we haven't got any Apple Stores or Apple Support in Greece

In the iTunes that Bob syncs his iTunes with go into the preferences or settings (Win: Edit > Preferences; Mac: iTunes > Preferences/Settings)

In the settings menu select the "Devices" tab. Here you'll see all the devices that are set to sync on your computer... Mouse over the device and the serial number will pop up. This has been tested on a Windows 7 64 bit computer with iTunes 9.2.1.5.

    As always, hope this helps

After that's done, take 'Bobs' foot and forcefully thrust it into 'Karls' head.

That is if Karl is the thief, if not then it might be Joe.
