If you're that new or don't know what to do, the last thing I suggest is to jailbreak it.
Simply follow the step-by-step instructions (there's only a few) and you'll be up and running in no time.
First thing's first, make sure you iTunes. If you don't, you'll need to download that.
That's where you manage all your music/videos/photos/apps and basically everything.
Once you've set up iTunes, plug in your usb and Touch, and everything else should be pretty simple at that point.
If you have any specific questions, just search as it's more than likely it has already been asked, or post...
Most people on this site are rather helpful.

Use your finger to tap stuff. Really, connect to itunes and let it sync your music. Then tap the music button on the springboard (home screen) and flick through it with your finger. I recommend watching the 2007 WWDC Keynote where Jobs introduced and demoed the iPhone.

    Call it a Ipod Touch.
    Don't Drop it.
    Clean it all the time.
Update to 2.0 via Itunes. (2.0.2 is the latest Firmware as of now)
Then after you get used to the interface and learn more then I would suggest jailbreaking/pwning it.

If it runs, it means it has a firmware. it's the software of your iPod touch. you can see your firmware version when you go to the settings of your ipod touch, then about.

or via iTunes, when your iPod touch is detected by it.

Just do as they say, plug it > iTunes > Update (if you want) > then start messing around with music, start adding a few songs, your best bet here is to explore iTunes while you are charging the battery of your new iPod touch.

start adding songs, adding album covers, some lyrics, some ratings. then after that adding a movie, or anything will become easier for you. you just have to start somewhere.

here's a video from apple, might help you also: (mods im not sure if im allowed to link, kindly delete if otherwise)
