Do some graphics tests. My assumption is that the graphics are going to suck. Sorry, that's just my opinion. Mainly for games, not other software. The GT550 can perform modern games at medium to low settings on laptop displays, but this retina display is going to kill it. That's my early analysis. Do some benchmarks with fraps if you plan on using Boot Camp. Try it at non native resolutions as well.

Nope but not many people need one anymore. Unless you have many games or programs on disk. I've been buying all my games on Steam now so I don't have to worry about getting a laptop with no disk drive.

I'd say as long as movies and music are sold on disks that they are necessary. Not to mention all of the other random things that come on them.

I highly disagree with you. Compact discs are obsolete. Those sames songs can often be purchased directly on your computer (i.e. iTunes) instead of a physical copy. You could easily store your music on a flash drive or external hard drive as well. And if you really need to use a CD on a rare occasion, just use Apple's plug-and-play optical drive accessory. I honestly think Apple made the right decision in dropping the optical disc. I have one on the side of my iMac and I honestly have put perhaps 2 CDs in there (one of them being the Snow Leopard install disk) in just under three years.

Many people (kids and others) don't have access to a credit card to purchase their music online. CDs are also much more useful to own then just digital versions. You can turn them digital and use them in all the places you can with your online bought stuff and you can also use them in things such as car stereos, gaming systems, etc. I don't know about you but i like to have what i need as part of my computer not as an accessory that i need to spend extra money on (as if mac's weren't expensive enough already.) . I do think that eventually everything will be digital (However much i enjoy actually holding albums in my hands.) but we have to for wait music, film, gaming, and many other industries to fully adapt before that can happen. I see the right time for that being about 10 years from now.

You can also just use an external disc drive if needed. I don't know about you, but I don't really use a disc drive anymore. I'm actually happier if it isn't in my machine because it's one less thing to worry about breaking. It also is a hassle turning on your Mac to gear all the disc check. It's one less process to check, making the boot even faster.
