Hey guys I got a mytouch 4G today I have a few questions though because I have no idea how to customize this thing. The phone runs Android 2.3.x and has a customized version of HTC sense 2.1. So ill just use this thread to post any questions I have now or in the future. 1) How do I customize icons, lockscreen, and homescreen stuff? 2) How can I delete these stock crappy apps? 3) Why are apps running in the background which I've never used before? 4) Should I close background apps alot? I'll think of other things later in the morning I'm tired now..
Try installing CM7? Or I think there is a ROM from Gazalan and this other one that has Sense 3.0 Or you can always go for Launcher Pro or GO Launcher
Root and use Root explorer to delete stock apps. Better yet, install MIUI and enjoy its Winterboard on steroids-like theme app. Also, don't use task managers. It doesn't help.
Ok so if I want to use a custom Rom how do I know which one to pick and what's good? I like stock Android and miui looks cool but idk how to find the right one.
Start with Cyanogenmod 7, its a fairly popular rom based on stock, with a small handful of useful tweaks thrown in. Because of its popularity, its available for most devices. With regards to your question about closing background apps... unless something specific is misbehaving, dont bother. Android is good about taking care of itself in that regard. Manually closing apps can actually hurt your phone's performance.
