I just opened and plugged in my brand new touch. I went to the about screen to see what firmware version I'm running and it says 1.1

I've never heard anyone talk about this version.

For jailbreak purposes, should I upgrade? Is this really 1.1.1? And I can just jailbreak this? And then what do I do after that? Thanks everyone!

if its brand new, unless you ordered from ebay or something, it should be on 1.1.3

Its brand new in the packaging.

    Its not a 1.1.3.

Some places don't move stock as fast as others. It's just an older version that I was looking to get some help with is all...

I believe 1.1 is an older firmware than 1.1.1. I have heard of it before.

Anyone know where to go from here? iTunes just gives me the option to upgrade to 1.1.3 but from my reading that seems to be the more difficult way to go if I want to jailbreak

Download the 1.1.1 from here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Restore by pressing SHIFT then CLICK "Restore". Then navigate using the window that just poped up to the location in which you downloaded your firmware. Click it. Wait. Once its done, set up your iPod. Next go to jailbreakme.com. Scroll all the way down and click "Install AppSnapp" Wait. Enjoy.
