I've been into portable music making for a while now. I normally use a Nintendo DS for music making (LSDJ, various DS apps, some other GB ROM apps) and now I have an iPod touch, and it seems like it has a TON of potential for this type of thing.

What are other musicians using app-wise?

Guitar, bass, drums, keys, and various noise instruments. I also use a few sequencers and oddball programs.

Beatmaker is the only app I know of for actually creating music.

Other apps, for more entertainment purposes, Band, Pianist, etc may also be what you're looking for.

Look in the Music section of the Appstore or Entertainment for any others.

    Cool.

As far as drumming goes, get a GOOD teacher. I've gone to lessons for about a year. My teacher plays the same types of music as I do, and understands where I'm coming from with different beats and rhythms.

A metronome is a huge help as well if your timing is an issue.

Personally, I think Pianist is the best.

if you know how to use it, beat maker IS probablt technically the best due to the features it has: pads, step sequencer, effects on samples, import and export samples... etc
