is there any way to display multiple views of the same image in photoshop? like if I zoom in on an image to edit in detail there will be another window that shows the whole image or the actual pixels of the part I'm looking at, and having that window show what is happening in real-time just like my editing window. that would be so useful!

In CS4, hit Window-Arrange-New Window for (file name)

I have cs3, and it worked. thanks a ton! it really is a useful feature. although I wish it updated the same way the working window did (like as you draw a line its showing it in the other window to) but it is still pretty awesome.
