I've had my ipod touch 1G for a little less then 24 hours now, already jailbroken (wheres the risk? no challenge, no danger!) and I am unable to figure out if it is possible to use the device in a MSC mode.
I see root/user/media/iTunes_Control/Music using iphoneBrowser v1.8 but all the .mp3 files have strange names and are likely incorporated into some itunes database elsewhere. Is there any possible way to get music on the device without iTunes? My music library is bigger then the device and I'm usually using Ubuntu which doesn't support iTunes.

I figure the answer is no but maybe there is another music app that just plays with simple directories. Thanks.

I found dplayer which seems to work well like this. Miss out on some of the nice pretty browsing features and cover art the default music player has but I think its worth it.

If you know of any other music app or way to bypass iTunes I'd still like to hear it.
