This is a discussion thread for the "Move Aside, Android: iPhone 5 Sales Top Two Million in China Over Launch Weekend" story posted on the front page.
the whole Asian market ( by Asia I mean China, Japan and INDIA too not only small eyed people) in my opinion is what Apple should start targeting now. Their products are overly overly priced here. You get an iphone 5 for $820( in India). There is nothing like contract phones, that wont work here in India for next 10 years.on the other hand Samsung products are almost the same price you get it in US and thus makes it a huge difference between the prices. Like they are starting some production center in US, they could do same in INDIA too, the rate of assembeling there products in India wont be as cheap as in China but if compared to that of US, it'll be nothing. Back to biggest market: with the population here .. c'mon, US is no match .. Apple should take Asia seriously because everyone is using a samsung-Android here. They wont even have to fight HTc or windows 8's. They're very less here too.
You'd think Apple would have a larger amount of control of the mobile phone market in China considering how locked down iOS is and how locked down the internet is in China. The Chinese government would seemingly make natural allies with Apple.
I would say the USA and China are equally important in the sense of Apple's market. Apple needs to preserve its homeland loyalty, but also needs to reach out to even larger markets, such as the world's most populated country.
Let's do some math shall we? There are 2 million iPhone 5 sales in China There are aprox. 1.3 billion people in China. That means they sold 0.15% to the population of China. Should I be excited or scared that they only had 2 million iPhone 5 sales in China?
Considering 948 million people in China live on less than $5 a day, I think 2 million iPhones sold is an accomplishment.
I think this maybe the real reason why sales are low in China. and just for the record it's $24.3 per day. BTW CONGRATS ON YOUR 3000TH MESSAGE TO NONSENSICAL GOODNESS!
Isn't there always a sh*tload of people who buy iPhones (or any phones, for that matter) for resale in their local black markets or whatever the situation is? Nonetheless, whether people wanted the phone for their own use or just for resale, it still is a high demand.
