    Hello, everyone!

I got a new phone recently called the Motorola Charm (with Motoblur) and I had a few questions about it. And as a quick side note, I know that I am positing about an Android phone on these iOS forums, so please don’t get mad at me. It’s just that I’ve been a member of these forums for a while now and trust you guys more than any other forum for providing me with the most legitimate information you can. Now, on to my questions:

    1. I have jailbroken my iPod 2G and my little brother’s iPod 4G multiple times now and I love what you can do with them. However, I would also like to “jailbreak” or root my Motorola Charm. I am very new to Android OS as this is my first ever phone with this OS on it, so I have no idea what tools to use or anything like that.

Here are my phone’s current specs: System Version: Blur_Version.2.3.9007.MB502.T-Mobile.en.US, Model Number: MB502, Firmware Version: 2.1-update1, Baseband Version: EPU93_U_02.3B.02, and Build Number: BASIL_U3_03.90.7.

I have heard that there a certain rooting tools that can accomplish different types of roots, such as soft roots, hard (permanent) roots, and boot loader roots. Could you guys please tell me which tools are the best and have the best success rate, along with these multiple rooting options? Could you also give me a detailed list of steps to accomplish this so I don’t make any mistakes? And is there any possible way to “unroot” these phones with these rooting tools as well?

    2. My phone seems to have a really fast battery drain. I’m not really sure what causes this, but I am needing to charge my phone everyday now, and it is getting to be a pain in the butt. I use my phone only for talking, texting, and facebook, but it still shouldn’t drain that much, right? Are there any specific settings that I can change or features that I can turn off in order to save my battery power? And is there anything I could do after rooting in order to stop this fast battery drain and possibly free up some memory and RAM?

    3. After I have accomplished rooting my phone, what are some really good “jailbroken” or rooted apps that I could install? Also, is there a “Cydia” for this type of rooting, or do we just have to download them from the phone’s brower and install it from there? If such an application is not available, then what would be a great website to use for downloading good apps? And could you all share with me what cool “tweaks” or “mods” you all have accomplished after your rooting and how to get them?

    4. Lastly, I think I have covered most of my questions here, but if there is any type of information that you would like to share with me, please do!

Thank you all in advance for taking the time to answer my questions!

I only had experience with 2 android, so don't think my post is 100% accurate.

    1. Different kind of root are still rooting. They do the same thing, is just that how they get rooted. (Example: Different exploit used in jailbreaking) Yes it can be unroot. It may just be installing a official rom, or click a unroot button.

    2. Fast battery drain... Try to reflash the rom. Or buy a new battery. But it's natural andriod needs to be recharged everyday. I had to recharge my andriod every 1.5days until I changed it to a extended battery. The extended battery lasted me around 3days. The charm battery is 1170mAh. Most standard Andriod nowadays are 1300-1500mAh. And old age = Less capacity. Don't always use it till 0 than recharge. Reduces life.

    3. All the apps are in Andriod marketplace, even apps that requires ROOT.
    600MHz Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP3410 chipset
So is the same speed as the 3GS.
Try setCPU, you can underclock/overclock it. And some tethering apps/Theme apps. It's a lot of fun.

XDA.Developers is a place to go for Andriod They have support for everything

Btw if you're using T-Mobile, I recommend their new Andriod Dual Core Phone. LG Optimus 2X. Dual Core + Very good graphics card

Nice! Thank you for the clarification! Which rooting tool would you best recommend for my phone?

Rooting is very different from jailbreaking, so be careful as it can make you phone unusable if you do something wrong. Also, it doesn't always work the first time, and you can encounter problems (most of which, however, Google can help you fix).

Yes, I know that there is a big difference between the two, but I just wanted to compare them in order to tell you guys exactly what I wanted to do. And I've looked at the website that nitrogen521 gave me and attempted to root my phone with the Universal Androot application and the Z4Root application. For some reason, the UA app is giving me an error saying "Failure," and the Z4 app is working to a point, then crashes. I have also enabled USB debugging mode and hooked it up to my computer as well. Do you guys know how to fix these errors?
