That is not a mock-up picture. That is a picture of the iPhone 4S with the current iPod touch next to it.
Screw Apple. The iPad 3rd generation heat problem is more than you may think. It can be very uncomfortable to hold during games, reaching temperatures close to that of a 1st degree burn. They should had recalled them and fixed the issue.
I have a third generation iPad myself and have never had this overheating issue, even when it was streaming Netflix for 8 hours. I'm curious how you got your iPad to overheat enough to cause a first degree burn. I don't see how playing games would cause it to overheat that much. On topic, if Apple has been releasing their iPhones and iPods separately for many years now, why change what works?
Nonsense! I watch HD movies, and play games like Zombieville 2, Tower Defense, Rage HD, N.O.V.A 2, Infinity Blade, Air Attack HD, Temple Run, Cubemen, and Minecraft PE......all with no heat problems. And, I even have a Belkin Snap Shield case on which should add to the so called heat problem. On topic....both my wife and son are anxiously hoping for a 7 inch iPad. I hope that the rumors about the new iPod touch are real also. My 4th gen will be 2 years old this October. All I ask for is an updated bigger screen, more ram, new processor, and better camera.
Play Modern Combat 3 for about an hour. Also, it uses more power than it can get. Plug your iPad in with the stock (brick) charger, and play Modern Combat 3. Your battery % will go DOWN, even though it's on the charger. I'd say y our Belkin snap shield absorbs most of the heat. Play Modern Combat 3 for about 30 minutes without any case or protection. Touch the bottom-left corner. It hurts to touch it.
"Sounds like your iPad is defective. I had an iPod touch that did this before with Fieldrunners and shortly thereafter, the iPod touch died [no amount of charging would revive it, nor would DFU mode restore]." Nope. Google it. It occurs on all 3rd gen iPads.
